How We Came To Be

Picture

Gabi
learned to dye silk during a weekly program at Daffodil Lodge, where she stayed while receiving radiation treatment after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.  She created numerous scarves as gifts for family and friends, eventually ending up with many extras.

Shaiyela
offered to sell the extra scarves online and organized two sales of ten scarves each, advertised by email and word-of-mouth under the name Silk Scarves by Gabi Doleske.  They sold like hotcakes and requests for other colours soon began to come in.

In the spring of 2007, Gabi gathered materials to continue working at home and taught Shaiyela and
Skye how to dye - together, they created Oh Silk! in November of that year.

After a successful first holiday season, the family decided to expand in order to meet summer demand.  Welcoming a few dedicated friends into the group, they also added handkerchiefs / bandanas, camisoles, tank tops, and veils to their catalogue.

Oh Silk! is now a small cooperative business dedicated to creating unique silk products for the world at large while providing friendship and fun to all involved.  We use only the finest silks from China and steam-set dyes from France.
